Key Stage 2 Maths

The Dice Challenge
Problem
You have two different coloured dice, labelled A and B.
Roll the two dice.
What is the total of the two dice?
How many different totals can you make?
How many different ways can you make each total?
What is the smallest and largest total that you can make?
Helpful Hints
You could roll a 1 on die A and a 1 on die B.
1 + 1 = 2
This is the only way to make a total of 2.
You could roll a 1 on die A and a 2 on die B
1 + 2 = 3
You could roll a 2 on die A and a 1 on die B
2 + 1 = 3
There are two ways to make a total of 3.
Work systematically like this to find all the possible totals.
Try a total of 4 next and then try a total of 5.
Look out for all the ways you can make each total. For example there are more than two ways to make 5 when rolling two dice.
Keep going until you have all the possible totals.
