Above are the images of the 8 coins used in the UK everyday. 
Kirin has three coins in her purse. Each coin has a value of less than 10 pence.

1. How much money could Kirin have in her purse?

2. Can you find all the possible answers?

3. What is the most Kirin could have in her pocket?

 

Helpful Hints

Which coins are less than 10 pence in value?

Start with the smallest amount.

Kirin could have 1p+1p+1p = 3p

Now change one of these coins: 1p +1p + 2p = 4p

Now change another one: 1p +2p + 2p = 5p

Continue to work systematically to find all the possible answers.

What if the three coins each had a value of less than 20p?

What if the three coins each had a value of less than 50p?

What if Kirin has 4 coins in her pocket, each with a value less than 10p?
